The transition of a chimney from the diameter Ø=2100mm to Ø=1100mm was to be designed and calculated for the temperature T=450°C with given stress resultants. It was dispensable to verify fatigue due to wind induced lateral vibration.
The transition was optimized in constructional and technical regard and calculated using heat resistant steel. For the cylindrical shells of the chimney the buckling verifications for local loading at the stiffeners were led. For the stiffeners and the circumferential rings the statical calculation for the stresses and the stability was performed.
