Starting situation

The lime kiln is part of a process engineering plant for the production of quick lime and for sugar. The lime kiln is placed in San Pedro / Chile, an area with extremely high earthquake acceleration to be considered, about 10 times the maximum values for germany. During the campaign (approximately one year) the kiln is continuously loaded and emptied to locate the fire zone nearly the mid of the kiln. The brick lining of the silo is attached on a circulating torsional ring, which is welded with the silo wall. The emptying of the silo is done with sliding tables, fixed against the silo shell.

What we did

For the lime kiln with all attachments and details, the ascent stairs, galleries and further components we calculated the limit loads and led the statical and dynamical (earthquake) verifications. The construction was optimized and numerous details were improved to ease manufacturing. All statics were provided in English language, based upon the Chilean earthquake standard, the eurocode and the DIN.
