The digester consists of unstiffened shell plates and has a height of about 32m, a diameter of 24,7m and an installation height of 21,7m. The digester was planned for the desert landscape near Dubai with very high wind speed to be considered.
The complete digester was idealized using the fe-program Ansys. We designed it for wind, sludge filling as well as for internal pressure and suction. The verifications for earthquake were led using the american API standard 650. The circumferential distribution of the wind loads was idealized calculating the angle between the individual elements-normal and the global wind direction. We calculated the ideal elastic stresses and strains considering the deformed system and the eigenvalues and -forms. So we also could verify the stability of the complete system and determine the influence of a discontinuous support below the bearing plate at the foundation. The complete calculation was made in english in reference to the american ASME-code, the Eurocode and DIN18800. The calculations considered abrasion and corrosion.
